Proposal 3: Expand Camping Opportunities


Issue: Since the 1940s, the Forest Service has abandoned many campgrounds and picnic areas around Mount Hood, usually because they stood in the way of expanded logging operations.  Meanwhile, remaining campgrounds are increasingly overcrowded.

Proposal: Double the number of campgrounds and picnic areas in the Mount Hood National Park from the current Forest Service system.  The campgrounds would be smaller than current Forest Service designs, and located to provide access to hiking trails and other activities. These would include the following:

  • Devil Canyon Campground (20 spaces)
  • Clear Fork Campground (20 spaces)

  • Hood River Meadows Campground (20 spaces)
  • Elk Creek Campground (20 spaces)
  • Devils Half Acre (20 spaces)
  • Lindsey Creek Campground (30 spaces)
  • Multnomah Basin Campground (20 spaces)
  • West Fork Hood River Campground (30 spaces)
  • Middle Fork Hood River Campground (30 spaces)
  • Marion Point Campground (20 spaces)
  • Shellrock Spring Campground (20 spaces)
  • Brooks Meadow Campground (20 spaces)
  • Sunset Spring/Flag Point Campground (20 spaces)
  • High Rock Campground (30 spaces)
